When we go into a hospital and meet a total stranger in a white coat the idea that they might drug us or cut into us is not frightening, when of course it should be. That’s because every day our behaviour is regulated by a set of norms that I refer to as ‘professional’….

Boo Yah! A second Demos podcast. Download the mp3. This one features John Craig talking about the new Demos collection “Production Values” which looks at the changing world of professionalism. Don’t think I can do it justice in words – that’s why it’s a podcast, but definitely worth a listen! John talks about the differing challenges that professionals face, why government can’t work them out and how we can all have a better relationship with them.

There’s a long version (the podcast link) but also a shorter version available on the archive.org page – both skilfully edited and combined by our very own Peter Bradwell, with authentic old-time radio intro music. In an effort to drown out the sound of traffic in the background we’ve managed to make Magdalen house sound like a pirate radio station, but it sort of adds to the intensity levels.
